FYI, if this shutdown deal goes through, this is how it ends “Republicans didn't move at all and 8 Democrats had enough.” - one of the most established Capitol Hill reporters, and a democrat, Jake Sherman Guess it was the democrat shutdown after all

Well no, since the Republicans’ insane demands are why they didn’t have the votes.

They could’ve kept SNAP funded at any time. Instead they were laughing and saying everyone should starve.

I doubt the messaging is ready for this narrative. We’re cooked

What insane demands? Temporarily continue Biden’s budget and negotiate major health care policy through the committee process rather than using the harm of a shutdown (such as SNAP running out) as leverage to jam it through? AOC, Sen. Murphy, Bernie, Sen. Warren, Minority Leader Jeffries, etc (I can go on) have all been previously been against doing precisely that. They’ve all been opposed to shutting down the gov to get policy through. How convenient for them to suddenly change their minds…

Biden’s budget wouldn’t be continued. Only the changes to Medicaid and the ACA would be undone. I’m surprised the party that shut the government down for 30 days over border wall funding is annoyed at this. There was a court order to continue funding SNAP and emergency funding was available. Why wasn’t the order followed? Why wasn’t the funding used?

I’d be annoyed about the wall funding shutdown too. And they should have continued funding SNAP.
