Why not? Scores track opportunity as much as ability. SAT results rise steadily with family income, and Chetty's research shows the neighborhood you grow up in measurably shapes adult earnings. So "strictly by the numbers" partly means "strictly by who could afford tutoring, good schools, and time to study." The real question isn't which race fills campus, it's whether we're measuring merit or just measuring head starts.
