This poll has been posted every day for multiple days, by increasingly large accounts. The red button has lost every single time. The red-button people are all over the feed making their arguments for how their choice was right, when it’s pretty clear that their choice has the objectively worse outcome.

Now that I’ve seen the actual question I understand where everyone’s coming from. From a self preservation perspective the red button is the obvious choice, it also tracks with a cynical view of other humans because no matter what YOU live and you assume other people will put self interest first too. The blue button is the obvious choice for people who put society over self interest and also have a more optimistic view of other people not putting self interest over broader society.

Even from a coldhearted place of rational self-interest, red is fucking stupid. Only red injects death into the system. Only red kills anyone at all. Knowing how statistics work and the fact that this would be an electorate of 8 billion people, at least 40% are GOING to vote blue. 2/5 people. People you know, people you depend on, etc.

If someone is so self-absorbed that they can’t see that the only button with potential harm to the entire globe, collapse entire societies, and kill billions will also probably blow back on them in awful ways that make them suffer afterwards, then they’re no longer rationally self-interested. They are at base self-preservation, like an animal, not like a human.

The fact that blue has won every single poll, with increasing sample sizes each time, is definitely part of why the red voters have made a bunch of wonky philosophical arguments. I think they have to cope knowing they are the baddies.
