Honestly, liberals think more freely than conservatives have ever dared. Most of us are agnostics or atheists, are well-educated, and can construct a reasoned argument as to why we believe something rather than citing an external authority like the Bible, the President, or Fox News.

To be freethinking means to come to one’s own conclusion based on the evidence. Agnostics and atheists are arguing the null hypothesis, while people who believe in God because of religious texts really do not have proof that God exists or is with them, specifically. I am a Christian - but only because I have evidence that has convinced me that there is a God. And if my evidence is correct, then God is against much of this conservative push to suppress independent thought.

And if you find sufficient evidence to support another belief, some people adopt it, there are stories of atheists who convert to religion, they have the same logical framework as you and they came to a different conclusion. That is freedom of thought, freedom to choose. Freedom is not expecting everyone to come to the same conclusion in absence of authority
