If the government is going to require us to have car insurance to drive (something the majority of Americans HAVE to do to live since we don’t have walkable cities or decent public transport), our taxes should pay for it.

Let’s just ask for universal health insurance first

Hey I’m all for making our taxes go to something more useful and helping out people with lower income but this idea wouldn’t be plausible no offense. I do think safer and more widespread public transport is important tho and I’m down for our taxes to go towards that

if health insurance is any indication, we want the government paying for the least amount of shit possible bc it just leads to artificial price inflation for the people who have to perform those services or use that equipment. tons of medical supplies is insanely overinflated bc they know the government will pay for it and that trickles down to private insurance being insanely unaffordable

Which is why private insurance should be eradicated lmao

Great argument for why private health insurance should be abolished entirely and replaced by a national public healthcare system. Companies are terrible middlemen.

private still exists in countries with ~free~ healthcare bc a lot of people would rather pay to see a doctor this month and not maybe 6 months from now. until the clankers get taught to deal with generic doctors visits, the system is just too backed up

But they avoid the inflated prices. I frankly don’t know, due to the existence of accessible public healthcare in countries like Germany, is private healthcare completely unfunded by the government and also forced to promote low prices? If there’s a free alternative they can’t jack up the prices like companies here.

There is no viable argument against a public option for healthcare. If you’re worried about it taking too long, private healthcare still exists. Anyone who is vehemently against public healthcare is either financially benefiting from a private only system, or is stupid.

I fear that may not work out the way we wish.

I don’t mean like, made illegal. I mean the public option should be available to everyone, so no one HAS to pay the high prices of private.

Can you like, illustrate why? Or do you just feel like it isn’t feasible because of vibes?

No just logistically it doesn’t make sense because your car insurance can vary depending on different factors. I don’t wanna pay for someone else’s poor driving. Now maybe if the government were to give a yearly stipend to go towards your car insurance or something like that it could work because then it’s not punishing good drivers. If car insurance is totally covered by the government, I could see way more people driving dangerously bc it won’t affect them as much. That’s my viewpoint

This is giving “If healthcare was covered by taxes then people would call ambulances to drive them home from the bar.” If the government provides a stipend to go towards private car insurance, the insurance companies would just raise their prices. That is what happens every single time the government throws money at a problem. Health insurance varies depending on different factors, yet other countries have made it work. We can certainly do the same for car insurance.

Alright well if they can figure out a way to make it work then fine w me! I was just giving my opinion based on what things look like now.. but I’ve yet to hear you give an in depth explanation of how it CAN work so I’d love to hear how you would do it
