Not quite. It’s much deeper than simply individualism. The trunk here is colonialism, but realistically the root goes even further back to everything that went down after Jesus Christ died. Orthodox monotheism installed itself like a virus, through violent force, and which enabled the establishment of metaphysical systems of hierarchy surrounding birth and agriculture, especially ownership.

Op and #1 are both idiots. Individualism is part of the reason this country became so significant. Individualism isn’t the problem, it’s greed. When people want to buck tradition to change the world for the good and create incredibly groundbreaking art, that’s individualism. When people worship money more than god and would rather buy a fourth mansion than give the people healthcare, it’s greed.

Greed creates individualism and individualism creates greed. Don’t call me an idiot when you clearly don’t understand what individualism is. Changing the world for good and creating great art for the masses is antithetical to individualism so idk what point you think you’re making

I agree with this for sure. But in terms of what’s rooted in American culture, individualism is the ultimate cancer. The idea that you don’t owe anything to anybody else and should be self sustaining is without relying on others is American culture and it’s batshit stupid and doesn’t align with reality. I think religion is the ultimate cancer of the entire world though so you’re totally right

When people think “I shouldn’t have to pay more taxes so poor people can have healthcare” that’s individualism. It’s the “why should I care if it doesn’t directly affect me” mentality that is ingrained in most Americans

I totally agree that individualism is the mechanism of the sociocultural disease, but to understand how to heal it, we need to understand where it came from. And to do that we need to uncover the suppressed indigenous side of our history.
