Let’s probably not blindly trust Iran saying who was responsible for the bomb until it’s been investigated ok? Thank you

literally is bro, illegal under the UN Charter to attack a country unless it’s in self-defense which this very clearly wasn’t

i want the regime to be gone too, but outside intervention to install a regime in our own interests likely won’t be popular with the people leading to the same cycle of repression we see now

I don't know how many Iranians you know, but the vast, vast majority, especially those who fled the country due to this theocratic abomination, viscerally hate the regime. The only people who still support it are the boomer terrorist fringe who are still shouting death to America

I know how many Iranians want the regime gone, the regime is repressive and authoritarian, but killing the ayatollah doesn’t collapse the regime, and the collapse of the regime could lead to a different dictator or even a terrorist group taking charge like we’ve seen in other American interventions in places like Iraq, Syria, Somalia, etc.

the Americans overthrew a democratically elected leader to install the Shah, who was unpopular and his reign literally led to Khamenei’s, it’s the U.S.’s fault this regime exists in the first place 😭

what makes you so certain the U.S. and Israel are going to “free” the people of Iran and not simply install a Western-friendly government that’s unpopular with the Iranian people?

upvote 5 downvote

“Western-friendly” implies the abolition of an autocratic regime

upvote 0 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #1 10w

not necessarily, the U.S. has installed Western-friendly dictators before like the Shah in Iran, Armas in Guatemala, Diem in South Vietnam, Soko in Congo, Branco in Brazil, Suharto in Indonesia, Banzer in Bolivia, Pinochet in Chile, the military coup in Argentina, Habre in Chad, Batista in Cuba, the Somozas in Nicaragua, Balaguer in the Dominican Republic, Rhee and Chung-hee and Doo-hwan in South Korea, etc.

Fair response. However, something that stood out to me was Trump's specific call to action yesterday. “When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take.” Does not seem like Trump will be jumpy to fill the leadership vacuum.

Plus, the White Revolution policies under the Shah were objectively good and well favored outside of Islamic extremists. He was generally thought of as a benevolent dictator. But luckily, it doesn't seem we will go that route. This was covert CIA action in the past lol

if anything I’d say that’s a bad thing, a power vacuum could simply lead to Khamenei’s successor or a military dictator

if you call severe authoritarian repression, corruption, extreme inequality, and the brutal suppression of dissent by the SAVAK secret police “benevolent” sure, the economic growth greatly benefitted the elites but many average Iranians saw high inflation and rising poverty rates, the SAVAK were known both for torturing prisoners and arbitrary arrests

Iran wouldn’t even have had to fire a missile in their case if we hadn’t started it, this is primarily the U.S. and Israel’s fault

True, he had an iron grip on political life, but he also advanced literacy, women's rights, and the economy (high inflation but extremely high annual GDP growth, industrial modernization, poverty rates were actually declining, per capita rates tripled, I believe, and the middle class was basically reformed). The IRGC is worse on nearly every single objective metric.

It is fully possible that it was Iran’s, who were actively launching missiles and counter strikes. It’s not uncommon for misfires/tech failures to lead to missiles hitting the wrong target. Let’s wait to point fingers until there’s an investigation. It’s weird to automatically blame the U.S. because Iran said so

This is a horrid, horrid childish position. You are now justifying the worst atrocities in history, as every side in a war believes they were the ones “provoked.” The War of the Cities (Iran-Iraq War) is a perfect example of how this logic completely fails

poverty rates increased, most of the per capita gains went to societal elites, and he was a repressive dictator The U.S. overthrew a democratically-elected leader to install him simply bc Iran chose to nationalize their oil

You are just choosing to believe these things out of your hate for Trump tho, there is a high chance that Iran bombed them themselves either bc 1. Because they suck and have no skill, and 2. They did it on purpose b. They don’t care about ANY life and know it would get people to turn on the US if we all spread for sure that the U.S. did it. Let’s find out the facts, Iran is the last news source you want to trust
