The error was assuming the system has a purpose. It is a byproduct of years of development in the relations between people and objects

I also wanted to say this. The system as it currently is doesn’t have an over-arching “point” at all; the powerful actors within it fight to accumulate capital while the rest of us are paid wages we need to buy things to survive. It serves no purpose
