Is it a hot take to say that maybe I am just becoming straight up anti religion in general?

I’m not gonna fight people for being religious or anything but everything I see about all different types of religion is just making me more and more concerned and against it, not even just the people but the basis of the religions themselves

But you’re not! Religion is fine! Religion being used to write legislation is what you have a problem with!!!

I try to learn about their ways and I am met with hostility, suspicion, and negativity in general. Christians have a BIG problem with this. So I’m done trying to learn.

I’ve taken a philosophy of religion class to truly understand multiple religions, perspectives and so on but it really only solidified my beliefs more. To me, it’s not a hot take

Imo even without religion people would have still found ways to do the evil shit they do. It’s human nature. Not saying religion isn’t harmful and isn’t consistently used for evil, but it’s the weapon and not the evil itself

How do you feel about people who believe in God but don’t follow any organized religion, out of curiosity? Like pantheists or deists

From the less I know about it, I still am not exactly for it and think it’s kind of dumb (I hate to say it like that but those are my genuine thoughts) but I’m not as much actively against it because it doesn’t seem to really harm anyone I don’t think

Lots of religious rules in general from their holy books I have a problem with

I’ve tried to understand at least one religion (Christianity) since I was a kid. All of the answers I got were dumb and I don’t think I ever really believed, I just went along with it

And then you ask questions, and then they tell you to shut up, you don’t know better. It’s wild behavior

I just got answers that were a lot of talking without really saying anything substantial followed up by some variation of you just need to believe and he loves you

What questions?

Questions like: why do we do this? Why do we pretend we are consuming the flesh and blood of our God? Why do things like childhood cancer exist due to a woman eating an apple? Instead of answering, they get mad

Fair questions. Some hard to answer, can be difficult for a youth pastor. But it is their responsibility

Idk everything. I wish I had a list because I’ve asked some really good questions before but I can’t ever remember anything for the life of me. Right now I’m kinda centered in why I should even like him if this all was real, and I know I should also fear him but if he’s real I just fear him, I’ve read the Bible and he is so unlikable and evil

And my dad literally is a youth pastor

Have him articulate the argument for the problem of the un-evangelized. It’s a tricky one that I think all youth pastors should know

The professor of the class was in theology school to become a priest but he had a lot of questions mainly about the existence of evil and suffering and he was told to “stop asking questions” and that’s when he left the church.

The thing is, I have always actually gotten “answers” from so many figures in the church and in my life and all the answers just suck anyways

I think religion also has some role in hindering social and scientific development since it makes claims and rules about social norms and science, but is not a major influence since without it most people would simply accept things as the were without asking why it is that way. But the again most scientific discoveries have been made by religious people across all eras

I actually made this post bc I was seeing stuff that was “haram” that was just straight up sexism, not even Christianity

All that to say is I’m often tempted to hate religion but in reality it’s benign so long as it’s not being weaponized
