The ability of an fpv to suicide dive isn't even what changed drastically, its cheap imaging technology in tandem with cheap fpvs replacing scouts that is changing the battlefield hugely. Drones purposes could already be achieved with a mortar team in past wars, but there was no means of recon scouting on that level that was cheaper than manpower
