I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being woke… that just means being completely aware of the hate going on in the world and around the country and wanting people to stop like gun violence, racism, womens healthcare, violent ice raids, etc. that’s being woke, being an left wing extremist is diff situation just like being an extreme republican is. cancel culture is about social media not politics, I promise you people aren’t voting for trump because they don’t wanna be canceled most trump s
it can be anything. most maga’s will cite the ability to like certain canceled comedians. or get mad when the gen public boycotts something and pushes that boycott onto everyone else cancel culture doesnt apply to genuine outward racism IMO cause thats existed before cancel culture. i think it mostly refers to celebrities or companies that do smth more moderate or minimal, still bad but not outward bigotry
i agree, but i think its the atmosphere of pushing that opinion onto others. like take starbucks for example, for a while there (and still now) people would genuinely get mad at someone for not respecting the boycott. i think that’s a perfect example actually. they call it the woke mind virus for a reason. its not that everyones “mind controlled to find racism bad”, its that someone decides smth is canceled, and gets mad at anyone else who doesnt respect that
I definitely agree that people cancel things for ridiculous reasons and that people should just do what they want to do but it goes both ways. Extreme liberals will agree with your Starbucks example but there’s also republicans that will call someone a libtard for advocating for women’s rights or things that should be simple and given. And those people are usually maga. Woke to me means educated and it’s pretty sad that there’s a negative stigma around that truthfully.
i dont think most republicans would truly agree women dont deserve equal rights, i think they would say we already have them. and that’s because they are shown a different world than us. social media/news paints so many people’s “pictures of reality”. they are shown stuff that leads them to believe the left has been manipulated to fight fake/unnecessary fights like a weaponized “woke mind virus”. i dont thinj most of them are evil, i think most are misled and or stupic
for example, my mom is a maga, she isnt misogynistic and she very much understands rape culture. but if someone brings up the me too movement, ahe’s gonna scoff. she will believe the individual stories like of harvey weinstein. but the name “me too” is so loaded in her mind, she has her identity set in the right/maga.. and has been shown too much about her community making fun of it. so she considers herself against it
its trained in us to keep us divided. im pretty sure 2 and 3 agree with me they just think of smtb different when they hear woke or cancel culture. if we dont understand eachother we just need a safe place to have that discussion and realize were all on the same side for the most part
I do think that the dems should embrace populist economic messaging as a way to win voters, particularly poor white and Latino voters who aren’t moved by social justice messaging. However, a lot of dems lately seem to be thinking the solution is to throw trans people under the bus and I don’t think that’s acceptable.
I suppose part of the problem is that “woke” is a term conservatives made up (well, stole from black people) which doesn’t really mean anything specific. So if someone says they “don’t like woke” that’s anywhere from “thinking policing language to be more inclusive is stupid” to “thinking trans people shouldn’t be allowed to exist in public” or “is racist”
