I wouldn’t have a problem with them if photo ids were issued to everyone for free. As it stands though they’re basically a poll tax by another name.

The big one is often registration being made inaccessible. Like if you have an office set up where you have to go get your voter ID, it’s extremely common for those offices to ““coincidentally”” end up a long ways away from majority black communities for example. And this means it’s a lot more of a cost to get one (gas, bus fare, etc) and also a larger time investment, which makes people feel less driven to get registered or they can’t afford it. There’s other reasons too but that’s a big one

Yeah the main problem is the method of implementation. There is no paired effort to resolve the disparities that mean minority communities would have less access to those IDs. It’s actually the reverse, republicans are deliberately making it harder for minorities to get the required IDs

According to the numbers you are more likely to be struck by lightning than to find an intentionally fraudulent ballot, so enacting strict voter ID laws only serves the purpose of preventing some people from voting rather than allowing more citizens to vote. You already confirm your citizenship when you register to vote and the failsafes to prevent fraud are extensive
