Iraq ultimately saw the fall of the Arab nationalism and the Baathist party in the country. Islamic fundamentalist groups like Daesh have been mostly controlled. However, Irans influence has also increased. So overall meh. I’d say Afghanistan is where we fucked up real bad.

We went into Afghanistan to get rid of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda, spent over $2T to do it, and the Taliban was in charge when we left. Definitely gotta be up there

Also Vietnam has become a de facto ally against the PRC so it worked out in the end.

It’s not so much about the end result decades later despite all odds, it’s how bad we fucked our faith in our own govt, in the idea that we’re a bastion of human rights, and how we fucked our veterans from that conflict

I’m not sure how accurate this is, but I’ve heard that many Vietnamese see U.S. involvement as less significant than Americans do, since Vietnam was also invaded by France, Japan, and China.
