I think we should integrate more native land management into federal lands but like if we are being real tribal politics is really fucked in a lot of places so this would carry a ton of major consequences.

What tribe gets the federal lands in areas where there’s no modern descendants or multiple groups who occupied the area in the past (ex Shenandoah, the Florida keys). What happens to land devoted to public grazing can the tribes just shut everyone out? Could the tribes shut people out of national parks? Does a tribe get Hoover Dam? The St Louis arch? The federal missile testing ranges? Can the tribes open protected lands for resource extraction and profit off them? Can they sell the lands?

Dude let me tell you, tribal politics can be fuuuuuucked up. Sometimes it’s normal, sometimes it’s very corrupt. Sometimes it’s super racist. Sometimes it’s just baffling. There was an attempted coup in the Kickapoo tribe back in 2023.
