I’m glad we’re getting an openly socialist leader at a small scale. He’s going to convert so many people to the anti-socialist cause without causing much national damage.

It does. Because it works. Just because you can’t afford anything doesn’t mean you should just get free shit. Get a job. And if ur not meant to live in the “greatest city in the world” then ur not meant to live in the “greatest city in the world”. It’s not a right Ur gonna tax the shit out of the rich and then they leave. Then what?

Ppl who’ve lived there for generations are getting priced out. The people who need to go are the corporate vultures who are so greedy they can’t even cough up another 1% in taxes. It’s insane

I say, help them pack their bags, and watch them go make some other city unlivable. We simply don’t want them here anymore. Getting them to leave is the point.

Unfortunately, there’s a lot of overlap. And the ppl living in penthouses on 57th tend to be oligarchs from foreign countries.

Honestly any outcome will fuck over the citizens. If u tax them like that then it’s gonna come out of the ppl who work for them’s paychecks and so on and so forth. Long story short, mamdani is just not cut out to be mayor and I HOPE TO GOD that I’m wrong. I hope to god that I’ve been wrong about him this entire time and that he legit fixes New York because that place is a fucking shithole. But based on debates, his policies, and his fucking resume, the dude is just not cut out for

Hi! As an actual New Yorker (born and raised) who moved because of the price and honestly all around better life style, the city didn’t go to shit until it consistently voted democrat. New Yorkers won’t wake up and realize that democrats actually don’t give a shit about people. I’m not one to march around and say I love trump but I also have a brain to realize that free shit and taxing the hell out of the people who are bringing business is not gonna solve anything

We are asking ppl who make 7 figures to cough up another extra 30 or 40k a year. They are willing to uproot their entire lives over that, we have problems much much deeper than we thought. Greed like that cannot be allowed to hold this city hostage.

Let’s be honest with ourselves. Anyone who’d pack up and leave over 40k who makes 7 figures is not bringing anything useful to the table in the first place. They’re not bringing business, they’re not paying commensurate with rent and inflation. They can go.

Yeah? It actually is their fault because again they pay the rent so they’re gonna keep raising it until they see where people can’t afford anymore. Don’t complain about working 3 jobs to pay your rent when there’s other places that you can live where you only need one when you’re literally contributing to why there’s a rent increase. If you’re biting at the high rent price for a shoe closet with communal bath that is no one’s fault but your own

Yeah let me get this straight. You are now blaming the cost of living crisis in this city specifically on leftists with money who can afford to pay rent in places that have been hiked. Not the people hiking them. Not the corporate landlords doing this on purpose. You say gentrification is bad, yet demand everyone leave if they can’t afford to live. Really?

Anonymous replying to -> #3 1w

Nah I do because no one realizes that the leftists who move to ny to chase their dreams because it’s a liberal paradise who bites at the high rent prices are only gonna contribute to the rising prices. Business for the most part is that more demand means you can charge more and as long as people are paying and they don’t care how they’re only gonna keep raising the prices, so sure the landlords obviously have some fault at it but what is gonna stop them if people are gonna pay them for them

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #5 1w

So we’re not allowed to tax certain folks because they ostensibly bring business. And now the ppl coming to participate in said business are the ones at fault for everything? People don’t move to NY because it’s a liberal paradise, they do because of jobs.

lol yk how many 20-25 year olds move to new York without a job and have their parents pay their rent until they get a job in which they then get an allowance from their rich parents? It’s all privileged white kids

Or we just vote Republican and watch them fix it. If it hasn’t worked this entire time maybe it’s time for a change

upvote 1 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #2 1w

Why is taxing everyone a solution instead of people having a wake up call that maybe they can’t afford some places? You don’t see me trying to buy a house in a gated community in Beverly Hills because I know my limits. Genuinely a good chunk of people who move to ny don’t know their limits and are now crying for government help because they don’t wanna leave. Not saying I agree with trust fund kids because I deal with them on an everyday basis, but why does the government have to tell them what

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #3 1w

Republicans will just continue to neglect our services and infrastructure which are desperately in need of fixing. They’ll continue to give breaks to multinational corporations who don’t raise wages while the treasury rots. They’ll continue to militarize the police while crime is at historic lows.

If you do the math for someone who makes $100 mil taxable income a year in nyc which is the type of people you wanna tax more about 11% state, about 4% city, and 37% federal income tax right? They’re paying already without any of these policies is already about 52 million a year

upvote 0 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #11 1w

The issue no one is talking about is that eventually these people are gonna just move to a place to keep living their lifestyle without having to pay for everyone else or they’re gonna be taxed so much they fall out of that tax bracket of extra taxes which means running out of money and eventually falling on the common person anyways long term it genuinely will not work
