it’s deadass just because in the French Revolution when they formed the legislature they sat the radicals on the left and the conservatives on the right sides of the chamber

The Montagnards who wanted to do a constitutional monarchy still under the king sat on the right, and the Jacobins who wanted a full on republic with no king sat on the left. That’s it.
