Why do black Texans distrust James Talarico especially considering the alternative are the racists who won’t trust black pilots because they think black people are inferior. His Houston town hall today was super hostile and I just wanna understand why

Texas is overall pretty conservative outside of the cities. Even the cities lean more moderate than liberal

Yeah I was following that primary race closely and it was definitely a shitshow. I like Crockett and I think she’d be a great rep and future leader in the house but her objectively her senate campaign was not run well at all.

And I don’t think it’s racist to point that out she entered the race unexpectedly, said that Hispanics have a slave mentality, and said that we don’t need to convert trump voters in a state where republicans have failed for decades and desperately need to be convinced for there to be any progressive change. She also hasn’t called out the genocide which turned away some leftists

For a statewide election in Texas which is a ridiculously diverse state you need someone who can represent all the communities regardless of what community they come from. I think talarico despite being from the white community is making a good effort to reach out to the black community as people and not a voting bloc based off his responses today far better than Crockett was at reaching out to communities that aren’t her own.

To throw my own thoughts into the ring here, Crockett played right into the hands of the Republicans with this. The Republicans knew they could get her seat gerrymandered out, and once they did that they hoped to get her primaried in the Senate so she’d throw a temper tantrum and possibly incite her voters to not show out to vote for Talarico in the general election. She also was more performatively liberal than she voted

The independents roughly cover the gap Republicans have with Dems making it near equal assuming most Independents went Republican. I’m not saying you’re wrong, but the gerrymandering DOES fr play into their elections

Can’t disagree there. California is also heavily gerrymandered but it definitely leans more liberal
