Guy whose takeaway from the HCUA is that it was bad bc it violated free speech and not also because it literally didn’t turn up any actual communists since it was all made up from the start. Almost like anti communism has always been a fucking witch hunt drummed up by people to distract from the real issues

In theory, yes, but that assumes the McCarthyist is logically consistent and informed about the historical context of their platform (they wouldn’t be, because they’re not very smart), so in practice, no not really, hence why loud anti-communists are often part of the “don’t tread on me” movement
