Relying on the government to censor the internet because you can’t be bothered to monitor your child’s online access is just bad parenting, completely removing online anonymity in the name of “child safety” is just a rouse to silence dissent.

Idk I hate to sound like a centrist but I think it’s something that should be in the middle? Like imo there’s some really horrid online children’s content solely made to make money while figuratively eating their brain cells. I think that shit shouldn’t be pushed to kids, and it’s obvious government regulation is the only thing that could stop it. Like I think we need more regulation but that doesn’t mean parents should just give their kid an iPad and let them browse and scroll.

And I say it’s obvious that we need government intervention because these corporations have done minimal self regulating. It’s clear that their profit-motive means they aren’t going to do something like this on the scale that’s needed.

There needs to be intervention, but that intervention needs to be focused on giving individuals more ability to regulate their own content and data. I’d be happy if I could turn off suggested algorithmic content and AI, and if I could reduce the amount of data a company collects, but I have no faith that people trying to remove content from the internet will actually use that to protect children instead of using it to silence dissenters
