we need to curb meat production and human population growth. fortunately human population growth can be curbed by giving women equal access to family planning and guaranteeing universal access to abortion & contraception. the meat one, plant-based diets

and the facts don’t give a FUCK about your feelings. we either curb meat production, or risk bringing famine on the largest scale in human history as the food system gradually collapses

How come? Redundancy of resources?

animal agriculture uses over 80% of our agricultural lands while providing only around a third of the calories in our diets. it is the leading source of biodiversity loss and extinction, land degradation and water depletion, and is responsible for 1/3 of global greenhouse gas emissions

How does the transition occur without damaging the livelihoods of everyday people? Social movement vs subsidies vs direct tax in terms of speed at which the economy adjusts. Is a social movement even an option considering how ineffective they are in this bubble/echo chamber reality of socializing in modernity? How do we minimize existing employees exposure to job loss? Do we subsidize plant based diets or direct meat substitutes like lab grown meat?

i mean, if lab grown meat wasn’t an energy intensive process (another aspect of the climate catastrophe), then that would be an acceptable alternative in terms of having less impact on land and water waste. for the vast majority of people, a plant-based diet is not only more affordable, but it is also more accessible and in many cases healthier than the alternatives

What is the most effective path to ensure this? Also you need to respectfully talk to people who are against what you believe in if your goal is awareness and not action, because unless you legitimately understand the thought processes that directly oppose this, you can’t do shit.

unfortunately, the larger cattle and dairy industries have spent large resources on propaganda, so many people think that they need these things or that they are healthy for them in the large quantities we already consume (the west has a waste issue also, 1/3 of our food is wasted, thrown out), so altering that culture would take an intense education effort. i think it’s worth it given that this is literally the survival of our species, and saving those who we’ve damned to ecological collapse

in person i do, on the internet, i don’t anticipate most people being receptive. the screen dehumanizes us inherently, so i feel it is wasted most times

and by propaganda, i mean the advertising, the presence in school meals, the grossly inaccurate food pyramid, etc.

Like most technologies, the resource limitations of biology do not inhibit the market shifting towards a more resource efficient approach. Unlike animals who need a certain amount of calories and water to get to a table, a number that is relatively rigid, lab grown meat or other meat substitutes have the potential to be much more dynamic, given the inherent incentive that the cost of resources imply

i mean yeah, i just understand most meat alternatives as plant-based? fungal too i suppose, people sear mushrooms like steak and describe it as a similar consistency

Idk, when I didn’t eat pigs, cows and octopus, I tried an impossible burger and that shit couldn’t possibly be considered meat. That was a while ago so maybe it’s changed, but it would be nice for something like that to be viable in terms of taste and cost.
