The hyper-conservative atheists are a thing and they’re weird. I think it’s tied to the “atheist community” on the internet being mostly white men. That’s changed a lot recently but has also been involved with a lot of the formerly respected old-guard atheists like Richard Dawkins going conservative because they’re super transphobic.

So while the atheist community as a whole becomes larger and less uniform and queerer, it also splinters and you get those weird groups of hyper-conservative atheists.
