What are y’all’s thoughts on ai use in apps like Spotify to recommend music? I will admit that it gives good suggestions sometimes but it feels kinda gross letting an ai choose what music I find or don’t find

From someone who works at an analytics software company, I’ve seen so many of the positive impacts AI has had on the world but these public generative AI platforms are the problem bc they aren’t putting limitations that they do have the ability to do on it. AI is a great tool, but the downside is there is still a lot of harm that can be done when not developed ethically

i dont care for it. i think the old algorithms were fine enough to not switch to ai.

I think it’s one of the least socially harmful use of AI and what I wish it was primarily used for. I don’t really like the suggestions but it works for other people. I’m just very against generative AI and using AI to think for you

I find that AI doesn’t really do a good job at it personally. I found my playlists/searches/recommendations to be a lot better on platforms like Spotify and YouTube before AI because as widespread as it is

It’s effectively an advanced version of the older algorithms

But for Spotify, I actually do like it. For the past 5 years or so, I just haven’t been able to find any good “new” music and I haven’t rlly made new playlists in a while so it’s nice when I don’t know what to listen to
