It’s not child abuse to not support your child in elective medicine. If your kid is s*!ci*al because they feel they were born the wrong gender then they need antidepressants and therapy. If they still want to transition I’ll support when they’re 18.
Parents who refuse to support their kids transition both medically and socially should lose custody

Preventing your trans child from accessing hormone blockers will negatively impact their mental health for years to come, possibly for the rest of their life, as it will amplify both their dysphoria and the medical interventions necessary to help them pass. Additionally, social transition is non-medical but is massive impactful in helping your kid’s mental health. Any good therapist would go “yeah you should let your kid socially transition”

Notice how they didn’t mention surgery. Transitioning doesn’t always look like surgery, and providers won’t perform any surgery if the patient is too young and until they have been in therapy for years

The only verified effective treatment for gender dysphoria by medical professionals is transitioning

I’m fine with social transition to test the waters. But I don’t believe it is in a child’s best interest for them to make major life-altering decisions such as hormonal transition care in a time where they are prone to bad decisions. I wouldn’t disallow it but I would strongly encourage them to wait until legal adulthood, when I would be far more willing to support them

Yeah surgery is a different beast. Honestly that’s the one part of transition I would have a hard time ever supporting because there’s no turning back after that and the risk of complications is real

So are you against puberty blockers or not?

I am against supporting them in that pursuit, but will not stop them from doing it. I will also not actively oppose them should they decide to go through with that. TLDR, yes, but I won’t stop them

Regret rates for gender affirming surgery are estimated to be less than 1%. Knee replacements are 14%, breast reconstruction up to 47%, up to 30% for prostatectomy, and up to 19.5% following bariatric surgery. Having children has a 7% regret rate, meaning that you’re more likely to regret having your kid than your kid is to regret gender affirming surgery

The reality that you need to recognize is that going through a natural puberty is also a life-changing decision, just as much or moreso than taking hrt as a youth. Puberty blockers *are* how you let them make the choice once they are 18.

I am not, but the majority of my close friends are trans so I am extremely well informed in terms of hrt and other transition care and in how hard it can be to be a trans teen and not be allowed to take hrt or puberty blockers.
