Common Sense has left the room on Twitter. My feed is filled with sentiment against everyone I just mentioned, with large emphasis on Jews and Muslims. I hope it doesn’t reflect the actual population.

By you saying foreigners bringing their values here makes our better, you are the one saying our values are inferior and theirs superior. Our values are progressive, not every culture you invite to dictate ours is. You don’t invite houseguests for dinner and let them change your furniture

not necessarily no, immigrants have a wide range of beliefs, not every Iranian immigrant, for example, has the exact same beliefs Also, I don’t think political / cultural beliefs should matter in terms of immigration, all that matters to me should be do they want to be here and are they not a felon Having differing opinions shouldn’t shut you out from society Also, I’d argue western values aren’t that progressive at all

That’s a fine opinion for you to have. But most other people believe you should also have to not want to tear down the country and rebuild it closer to where you came from. That’s not a radical belief. And i never said you’re not allowed to have different opinions. But part of getting the privilege of becoming American is becoming AMERICAN

yeah I disagree with this, I disagree with people who would want to install, say, a religious aspect to the state, but considering there are Americans who want a Christian state, I’d say blaming immigrants or criticizing immigrants for having the very same characteristics as Americans is anti-immigrant

Key word: Americans. You don’t get the same say when you join the club vs when you’re already a member. If you want to talk about once you become American, that’s another story. But people who aren’t even American yet, trying to become one, should not be getting a say in rebuilding America before even being accepted into it. And the fact that someone wants to come here only to tear it down and rebuild it SHOULD be a warning sign not to let them. There’s other places to go

I mean why go to a country you want to tear down and rebuild in your own country’s image? Why not stay? Also, the “tear down” is often an exaggeration used to fear monger against people like Muslims, no, not all Muslim immigrants want sharia law, that’s a propaganda talking point, for example

I agree with point number one. Not everyone does. But point #2 doesn’t just extend to religious law systems like sharia law or Talmudic law. We all acknowledge there are cultural differences between people in different countries, some good some bad. But no country is required to take on the bad just because the people have some good to offer too. It’s totally normal to have calculated risk

Thankfully not all Muslims follow sharia law and not all Jews follow Talmudic law Also the Talmud is grossly misinterpreted when in reality it’s a book of debates

You don’t have to lecture an Orthodox Jew on the Talmud lol. But it doesn’t take an entire people to affect something. Like I said, a country shouldn’t be obligated to take in the bad just because there’s also good. Criminal history is not the only indicator of ideological incompatibility
