i think the interpretation is more like doing a job you’re passionate about that it doesn’t feel like work. there’s a lot of pilots who love flying and a lot of librarians who love what they do. i feel like “labour” in the context of this quote is like the textile industry when we didn’t have work safety rights & shit. but then again i’m not like diehard familiar with this concept, it just makes the most sense to me. let people do what they love and get the training/education for it.

You don’t get to do the job you’re passionate about. All unproductive jobs are eliminated, everyone becomes productive, reducing the work day, and giving you the free time to follow whatever you’re passionate about

there are definitely folks for which your interpretation is correct. and that’s about where I land on it, though I think necessarily there is some stuff that needs to be done at a scale where the workers won’t all be passionate (this is where adequate compensation comes in) however I run into a lot of folks who like legitimately believe in a post-labor society that somehow miraculously doesn’t affect their ability to receive other people’s labor

like crucially, many pilots and librarians already are passionate about what they do. but I’ve worked in factories for a decade and I’ve met maybe two people who were like, in love with the job they were doing. And the companies I’ve worked for treat the workers pretty well

You become passionate about this productive labor because your labor is a key part in keeping society running. The actual individual tasks aren’t as important as the fact that you are serving a greater purpose. It’s love of your people which makes you proud of what you do
