It’s kind of wild how many iconic people were socialists or communists and that’s just not acknowledged. MLK Jr., Albert Einstein, Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo (literally dated Trotsky), George Orwell, Woody Guthrie (wrote This Land is Your Land).

He moved in with her and her husband in Mexico after fleeing Europe. Kahlo’s husband cheated on her so she got with Trotsky and they had an affair. I called it dating because of limited word count but an affair is more accurate.

Guthrie wrote regularly for communist newspapers and the whole reason Orwell had so much beef with Soviet communism is because he fought with them in the Spanish civil war and witnessed them purging less authoritarian communist wings.
