I feel like in isolation the mellowed out style of Northern European Christianity would be best, but that only works because they have a very secular populous. You can’t trust American Christians with a state religion. So Buddhism it is.

My main understanding of Lutheranism is heavy emphasis on reading and interpreting the Bible.

Paganism would probably carry even more inherent issues due to it being inherently tied to the history of certain ethnic groups. Something like Christianity, Buddhism, and Islam, while they do carry lots of issues, are at least multi-ethnic and global faiths. Paganism, meanwhile, tends to be tied to certain ethnic groups and is usually used to refer to ancient European religions.

Because “paganism” is not one religion, the government would probably have to choose a kind of paganism. And whatever kind of paganism is chosen would lead to unfair dominance towards that ethnic group. I mean that’s already a problem with any state religion due to the ethnic ties of religion but especially in this case
