Not rlly but you have to contextualize this choice within the Cold War. The U.S. doesn’t have an authoritarian socialist U.S. on its border that claims to be the real U.S. that’s the difference.

i don’t think broadly, i think at the least it would be connected to our intelligence agency’s work on monitoring for domestic terrorism, as long as people are getting their needs met and don’t FEEL like they’re being exploited/controlled/watched too much i think there would be a lot of acceptance of socialism with the outlier of capitalist counterrevolutionaries who if anything are already monitored today
