The leftists of 2026 are not the leftist of 1940

it was really after the USSR was invaded in June 1941. once Molotov-Ribbentrop was broken, the comintern and American left, switched their stances on the war. people like Pete Seeger and the Almanac Singers pulled their anti-war music for a period, and started producing songs in support of intervention. the attacks on Pearl Harbor that same year cemented their stance

Crazy how I’ve been consistent and give everything a fair shake. I might despise modern leftists, but I don’t need to lie about them or downplay anything.

Leftists didn’t want to join the war until we were attacked. I have to imagine they’d be the same. Sure, you’ll have your hardcore tankies that would support a Chinese invasion or some shit, but most of them are just non-interventionalist or isolationists. Being attacked changes their opinion.

the Almanac Singers, Ballad of October 16, is pre-intervention and is critical of FDR’s reintroduction of conscription and proposal to intervene in Singapore. in 1942 their position has markedly changed

I think the Spanish civil war is probably the most admirable to me. A lot of respect to communists and socialists for trying to defend an uphill battle. They were already losing by the time the anarchists decided to be fucking stupid, but fuck anarchists

Of course you’ve got literally the opposite history lmao. The communists (on the order of Stalin of course) literally just started murdering anarchists and effectively started a civil war within the civil war.

It’s not the “opposite” history. It’s just strategy. Anarchists wanted some social revolution WHILE THE WAR WAS STILL RAGING but the communists were the smartest ones in the fucking room who argued that they should probably focus on beating Franco and rebuilding the country

Like the nationalists were literally at the front door and the communists knew it, but for whatever reason, the anarchists couldn’t conceive that ALL of their movements would be crushed. It’s like arguing over the design of a house when the fucking thing is on fire.

Which is why the communists started murdering the anarchists and stole all the republic’s money?

Running a stalinist purge behind the lines and of the officers is probably not a great strategy.

You’re telling me why Stalinists were bad. I’m asking how the Republic was supposed to win. Those are different questions.

The Stalinists literally betrayed the Republic. You argued they were the ones in the right. So Id say, by not letting stalinist’s take over.

“Don’t let Stalinists take over” is a slogan, not a wartime command structure. What was the actual mechanism for winning?
