IMO gentrification is virtually inevitable due to market conditions. When an area becomes safer, more desirable, etc, there will be increased demand to live there, pushing up prices. How do you improve a community without it being more desirable?

the issue with gentrification is WHO gets the benefits and WHO does not. The issue isn’t “oh my place is worth more!” Because most people have systematically been removed of the ability to purchase a home and thus will only pay higher rent or be kicked out. It’s a matter of property and who owns it. Gentrification is only inevitable so long as our capitalist economy continues to waltz towards neo-feudalism

You don’t. You build up and do what you can to mitigate negative impacts from growing pains the community will inevitably experience. This usually involves investing in public transportation, incentivizing businesses to open up jobs, and allowing for large scale, housing developments that are affordable for people arriving to the city.
