I’m a center-right conservative, but I’m relatively moderate on trans rights. I’m fine with adults living their lives and doing what they want, and having the same rights as any other adult of the sex they identify as (bathrooms, ID, whatever). I am against trans athletes competing in sport categories outside their biologically assigned sex. But what is your definition of “protect”? I would be interested to see if I agree.

I know that giving kids castration chemicals is terrible for their health and that gender reassignment surgery has a 67% complication rate

Well kids don’t need puberty/hormone blockers they need therapy and someone who is willing to listen and tell them the hard truth (being that you can’t fully become the opposite gender) in a compassionate and loving way

Put simply: they shouldn’t be made to fear being themselves. They should be comfortable in their gender identity before they come of age to make a decision on transitioning.

Interesting. I agree on compassion and understanding. And I agree with you on waiting until adulthood for transitioning.

To be pragmatic, there is not enough research on hormone blockers/inducing hormones on people younger than 21. I don’t know that kind of solution. But I’d rather respect their gender identity and let them make the adult decision when they are 18.

I can agree to that.

In most states, minors cannot get hormones/hormone blockers until 16, and the only medical thing they would have access to (still needs parent permission) is puberty blockers. Unfortunately, putting up red tape around puberty blockers to make sure they’re not being used for gender reasons makes it more difficult for doctors to prescribe them for early-onset puberty, and the whole idea around them is that they’re essentially a pause button on puberty and it can resume normally

I’m not arguing with someone who doesn’t understand that big surgeries can have complications and thinks that puberty blockers are “castration chemicals”

the reality of the situation tho is that gender affirming care literally saves lives, esp amongst teenagers. research on trans care in general is extremely underrepresented in medicine. wouldn’t you rather advocate for more research than restrict that right all together? as a trans individual myself i genuinely believe i wouldn’t have been as suicidal as a teenager if i was able to go on some form of hrt.

i was in therapy as a kid and on anti-depressants and nothing has benefitted my mental health as much as going on testosterone has.

Oh no I don’t want that access blocked. What I’m saying is my own blind spots on the topic keep me from giving credible solutions. I should be more explicit in saying that research and gender affirming care should both be more widespread.

I honestly can’t imagine how hard it is to be a trans person. I know it is none of my business, but what I do know is that there is a loving God who sent his son Jesus to die for all of the pain and suffering in this world and resurrect to defeat it all so you could be free in heaven. There will always be someone who loves you no matter what situation you are in 🫶🏼

Why does it even matter if someone can’t “fully” become the opposite gender? There are communities that operate and have operated perfectly fine without rigid sex categories.

i’m jewish so i don’t even believe in jesus but thanks i guess? in all honesty i find my transness to be a gift from god and i thank him to this day for my existence and experience

no one fully believes that they can 100% become the opposite sex they just want to feel comfortable in their body and be respected by other people! Puberty blockers are only prescribed AFTER extensive therapy
