All men have already been mandated to register for draft since 1917. This literally changes nothing.

I mean it changes that people don’t have to do it themselves (and prove they did it to get access to certain things like student loans)

People are automatically registered now. Which means they could do the same for voting but choose not to. Thats the whole point.

The DMV forces you to register I believe

In 44 states, apparently

That’s slightly different because each state has its own voter database, not one federal database like SSS does. But they could pass a law to mandate automatic voter registration in all states. 24 states + DC have mandated it. Other states don’t require it but there is some integration with the DMV when you get a license

I doubt they will bc of public pushback. They pull jury selection out of voter registration where I’m at and I know MULTIPLE people who refuse to vote over how much they hate the concept of jury duty (I feel they are moral failures on both fronts but potato potato it is their right to be idiots)

Wait you can get out of jury selection by not being registered? 💀 In the 24 states that do it, you can either opt out after they register you or opt out while you’re getting your driver’s license (so they never register you)
