Just pointing out that many people don’t know like half of sundown towns were in the north. Not to excuse the horrible racism of the south, but northern racism is often ignored to pretend that the south is the only place it happened.

Honestly from some brief research the north might have had even more than the south. I don’t know the exact statistics but there’s some websites that compile lists and holy hell Illinois and Indiana have more than any southern state

More reading brings me to a book by James W. Loewen which details that sundown towns were more of a northern thing because the Deep South needed black labor so couldn’t exclude black people as commonly. Plus with Jim Crow already in place there was already a system to restrict black people.

Like my friend deadass works in a sundown town there where they ID people and check their address to use public parks so they can keep the “wrong kind of people” out of them.
