I think the positives on both sides just become bipartisan at a certain point. Especially modern day: “republicans support of veterans” so do democrats. “Democrats supporting small businesses” like, so do republicans. The issue is that in current Republican politics they are literally not doing anything worth supporting, unless you have capital. Which whatever, there are some republicans I respect, but would still never vote for or really support. That’s politics.
Sometimes people’s positions and policies just suck. Just because someone has a side doesn’t mean that side must be correct in some way. If “conservatives” actually put some effort into conserving historic sites, or nature, or endangered languages then we could talk. But currently, the Republican Party leadership is against all those things.
And see that’s great. And now the Trump admin defunded hiv prevention because the modern Republican Party is terrible on everything. I can name plenty of Republican policies I agree with, but they’re all in the past or disempowered positions not supported by the current party leadership.
Especially the veteran thing, Reagan fucked military benefits the most, so has Donald Trump. The VA is underfunded, understaffed, and ideologically not up to date with how to care for vets. That’s why vets make up such a large % of the homeless and addicted. It also doesn’t help that the way we’ve handled military service runs off of the enlisted rates of poor people, they’re already at a disadvantage. And neither party has done much in policy to ensure that vets and reintegrate into society.
So many vets get out of the service and can’t find jobs, so many vets get out and don’t get college paid for, don’t get a hellcat, don’t get worthwhile insurance. If they get a good VA bill, the standards to meet them are pretty steep. And the way Hegseth has handled his role in an incompetent manner, some republicans are fighting it, but too many republicans rather be seen as “Trump endorsed” than not. And they’ll get support just for that. Not to mention the violence women in the service expir
