This gonna be a rough take on here but not everyone needs to be able to afford a 400 k house. Unless we’re saying houses in general should cheaper then I would agree.

If I worked 40 hours a week every month on minimum wage (which I can’t because I’m a full time student), I would have maybe $500 left after rent per month, not including utilities, which doesn’t leave a whole lot for the necessary gas, groceries, and medication. Any random expense could put me in the hole if this was my situation.

State minimum wage, if it was federal minimum wage I would fall about $400 short of rent. If minimum wage workers can’t afford apartments, we need minimum wage to be raised, not for houses to be cheaper.

Sure I’m fine with minimum wage increases at the state level. I’m also fine with making education more available to people. I’m just saying 400 k house is a luxury I don’t like the home ownership culture in the us and it’s a big driver of why homes are so expensive here.

Also house prices can make rent prices increase. If there’s a general lack of supply of housing that’ll also drive up rent prices.
