Doctors don’t perform abortions past fetal viability. That’s the cutoff, has been for decades. That is because their job is to help people. Late term abortions are rare and usually happen for dire medical reasons. If the fetus is viable and needs to be removed for medical reasons, we call that a C-section
Just because there aren’t restrictions doesn’t mean they happen often. Abortions are considered such even if it’s performed due to medical complications like amniotic fluid loss or even the death of a fetus in the womb. A vast majority of late term abortions (7% mind you) are medical interventions
You know that federal law supersedes state law, right? Before the Dobbs decision, states didn’t need to excessively limit abortion because roe v wade did that in its original decision. Roe only allowed for abortions up to the point of viability, except in cases of fatal risk to the mother’s life.
Like sure, this is a very loaded topic and it’s easy to misunderstand; but people were never able to get a third trimester abortion out of pure will. The only scenarios that occurred is those in which the mother’s life was at risk if it continued, and that’s because the Supreme Court originally designed it like that.
Because it wasn’t directly about abortion, and you’d admit that if you weren’t being a disingenuous little shit. Was “As a leftist” meant to add weight to your disinformation? The original decision was regarding the implied right to privacy. (Keyword: implied) the implied right to privacy is the basis for many decisions, including access to contraceptives outside of marriage.
