Give Mississippi a break. They just rose to 9th overall in literacy rates among 4th graders, which is a jump from 43rd in 2013 and currently higher than the state of New York

A win is a win but that doesn’t change how far they lag behind in so many other socioeconomic categories. Growing in a subset of a category isn’t earth shaking in the larger need to get over the other side of the canyon they’re in.

As an Alabamian, I’m proud of neighbors in Mississippi. They’ve been eying to improve and it’s caused us to as well (since we can’t be below them duh)
