This wasn’t coincidental. Israel considers Druze to be a more peaceable ethnicity, going back to Druze neutrality in Arab-Zionist conflicts in the 1900s. Israel expelled non-Druze intentionally, it wasn’t that all the Syrians just fled. We are seeing something similar in southern Lebanon now. Muslims (especially shias) are being targeted for expulsion moreso than Christians and Druze.

Israel literally sent a missive to the Christian Arab and Druze communities saying that if they hid Muslim Arabs from the IDF in their homes during the Israeli operation, they would be prosecuted or killed. Any denial of ethnic cleansing by Israel is a fucking farce.

And they’ve been following up on it. Multiple communities in Lebanon have been struck because they allowed Shias to seek refuge inside them (in at least some cases there was a Hezbollah militant among the refugees “justifying” the strike). So, many communities in Lebanon are now excluding Shia refugees entirely, and others are requiring strict vetting to ensure no Hezbollah affiliation
