As someone who doesn’t want kids, anti natalism is weird to me bc it’s not morally reprehensible to have kids 😬I don’t think it’s morally reprehensible to have kids, but I do sometimes judge people who choose to have kids when they very obviously DONT have the means to give that child basic necessities or if they have very painful genetic disorders that are extremely likely to be passed on. At the end of the day we all have agency so I would never tell someone they can’t have kids, but I may silently judge them from afar. It’s not my place to tell people what to do.
I don’t think being poor is a reason not to have kids either, but I also think it’s very irresponsible to bring a child into the world knowing you don’t have the means (specifically housing and access to food) to support them and just assuming “you’ll figure it out along the way.” We’re all taught that we need to be prepared BEFORE going to college, buying a home, and doing many other major things, so I don’t think having children should get a pass.
I had many friends who grew up in poverty who are very grateful for their families and who grew up to be amazing people. It’s mostly people who don’t have stable housing and access to food or other basic necessities who I judge for having kids. For example, my cousin is living in a car and regularly steals food/gets paid for sex to survive. She is “trying for a child” with the various guys she sees and I think she’s fucking evil for that.
