Everything is political. You cannot avoid it. Especially in a country where sports are so tied to nationalistic displays and to the appropriation of native cultures.

technically sports are a product of political circumstances. For some examples: Jackie Robinson’s racial integration of MLB, Women’s professional baseball taking off during WW2, Walter Triplett as first NFL player drafted into military service for the Korean War, WNBA’s Brittney Griner arrested abroad and used as political leverage to swap her for a Russian war criminal, etc. I think ALL sports are heavily involved with politics, no matter what…

Yeah politicians using sports as an arm of propaganda is a no. I do believe there’s room for social movements and equitable policies in sports, which many would call “political”.
