Less and less parents are reading to their kids and this is gonna lead to some super troubling shit down the line in terms of education. Sadly Gen Z has a good chunk of blame for this.

Unfortunately is like the most niche take of the over-arching problem. Arguably one of the largest problems in this country: parents not raising there kids at all or with no good faith effort

my mom reading to me as a kid is one of my fondest memories. she started doing so when she realized i was struggling to read in kindergarten. by first grade i was the best reader in the grade. by fourth grade i had a college reading level and finished novels all the time. the fact that kids now won’t get to experience being read to and being able to read is so sad

i feel like that’s mostly millennials, they literally birthed the ipad kids. most of gen z isn’t old enough to be having kids yet

Gen Z started in about 1997 ended about 2012/2013. They did a study in 2012 that found about 64% of their parents read to their kids. Recently they did the study again now with 41% of parents reading to their kids. Gen Z compared to Gen X had wildly different views on Fewer than half of gen Z parents called reading to their children fun for me almost one in three saw reading as more of a subject to learn than something to be enjoyed – significantly more than Gen Xers in the study.
