American war hawks will live in a country founded by an inferior local force defeating the world’s most powerful military through asymmetrical warfare and be like “there’s no way an inferior local force could beat the most powerful military in the world.”

Vietnam much like Afghanistan was more of a battle of public opinion than of ability. Could we have kicked the North Vietnamese back to kingdom come? Sure but we woulda have had to go all out, and we weren't even comfortable going halfway.

Yeah we fought with one hand tied behind our back because of China. We feared their troops would move in like the Korean War

General MacArthur cooked up some notable plans for how to counter such a threat during the Korean War

I mean, the Revolutionary War was also a loss of public opinion for the British. People in the heart of the UK didn’t want to be fighting ANOTHER costly war across the Atlantic Ocean, the will to fight is absolutely a factor in powerful global militaries getting beaten back by inferior forces lmao

As Americans, we tend to study our own side of the Revolutionary War more than the British perspective on it, but there was a sizable contingent of the British public and Parliament at the time that was basically “We just spent all that money and all those lives in the Seven Years War over there, we’re sick of spending money and lives in the Americas, if they wanna be independent, fuck it, let them see how hard it is to actually rule” and that absolutely had its effect on the British war effort.

I agree and support the Ukrainian people’s independence and sovereignty. I absolutely hate “leftists” who pretend that the Russian Federation is even remotely like the USSR.

Although public opinion. Britain also realized with French and Spanish support for the colonists. This would be a losing fight and better to get out now before loss of more strategic locations

Yeah, French and Spanish involvement influenced public opinion, and public opinion influenced Parliamentary policy on the war effort, that’s what I’m saying!

This is a chicken vs egg argument. Public opinion went down because they were facing battle with Spain and France. If they were winning the war public opinion would be high. Public opinion in France for the war was low. Which would later cause the French Revolution
