The reason antisemitism was common in Europe is that because they were historically the largest major minority in Europe. The largest minority everywhere faces baseless accusations. Muslims in Europe, Hispanics in the U.S., Indians in Canada, etc

Also I heard the reason why a lot of them went into banking was because they were systematically pushed out of other jobs. Christianity forbade its members from lending money, so that was an economic niche the jews could fill and they made the best of it. Similar thing happened with Hollywood I believe

There’s more to it than that. During the bubonic plague, people noticed that Jews were dying at significantly lower rates than everyone else, so they blamed the Jews and turned them into a scapegoat

The Jews were/are targeted because they were richer than the general population. Just like the Indians in Uganda. The biggest minority in most European countries was usually some other European nationality
