as a democrat, the main problem i have with my political party is is the way we tend to use bandaid policies instead of getting at the root of the problem. example: using DEI as opposed to increasing the quality of education in underprivileged areas

I said this in high school during a discussion about diversity and people lowkey got mad at me for it 😭

Yes! DEI legitimately sucks but people don’t wanna hear it

i think the intention with it in the 1900s was really great especially when you were allowed to be blatantly sexist or racist in hiring and education decisions, but it’s wildly overused now and used as a bandaid solution to poor public school education in underprivileged areas. instead of fixing our primary and secondary education so that everyone has a great quality education, we say DEI and pretend it’s fine.

it’s the same thing with government agencies providing benefits. WHICH ARE SO IMPORTANT. our government provides all sorts of benefits to lower income americans which is good as a supplement for families, but does very little to address the underlying issue of poverty in the us

I think we have to resort to a bandaid though because we know that increasing funding for education is likely not going to pass
