Crazy enough almond farming exceeds both by a ton

Dry land farming in the United States is so fucked. What crops we grow (almonds), where we grow stuff (in the desert), and the regulations (you need to use all the water you are possibly allowed or you lose water rights)

Yeah no shit dude, a lot of stuff takes a shit ton of water, but data centers (and golf courses for that matter) do way more harm than good. The problems outweigh any benefits.

This wasn’t really even a statement about data centers but arguably tree nut farming (almond farming being the biggest culprit) causes pretty serious harm especially considering it’s often in California where there’s frequent droughts anyway. Like why can’t I just point out the almond thing without having to mention data centers are bad

To be fair all tree nuts do, but yes. Almonds get a lot of heat in particular because it’s a big industry

I mean also almonds are specifically grown in a very water limited area. My grandparents are pecan farmers in Georgia. Georgia is not very low on fresh water. Same goes for chestnuts in Michigan, hazelnuts on the Oregon coast, or walnuts in New England.
