Living in Minneapolis, these past few weeks have been awful. The federal government is invading our city and the state/local governments are unable to help us. What the fuck are we suppose to do?

Arming yourself will get you killed as we’ve seen. We need a different way

not being armed will also get you killed. i’d rather have my weapon on me regardless.

Being unarmed won’t stop these thugs from murdering you. At this point, it’s an “on your knees or on your feet”question. Plus, if there’s more of the people’s guns than their guns on those streets, it’ll make them think twice about popping someone for having one.

If there’s 12 armed civilians in an area, and they single out and shoot one of them, there’s a good chance one of the other 11 starts shooting back. If there’s only one armed civilian, that guy’s fucked.

I am a staunch opponent of civilian firearms, always have been. They don’t belong in a modern functional democracy and I stand by that. However today is the first time I’m starting to agree that people should carry, to die on their feet as y’all say. This will start a civil war though, or at the very least a truly hot conflict with no historical precedence

I have never been an opponent of civilian firearms because I have always known that even the strongest democracies have the capacity for backsliding.

From the end of the civil war to about now they’ve exclusively harmed us, plagued us with needless killings and taken our children from us. Now may be the first time they have a chance of being useful. I’m sorry for all of us that your prediction ended up being correct

Maybe it’s time for a civil war then

Nooo. We don’t need to do that. This is an ideological battle more than a physical one. We don’t need more innocent lives lost and we should try to avoid war at all costs

This is absolutely right. The average person is not ready to go to war with their neighbor. I think Chicago or SOMEONE in our government watching needs to call in the fucking national guard immediately. We literally have a branch of our military devoted to this, and they are allowed to ignore illegal orders. This isn’t north and south anymore. If we descend into civil war we’ll end up like half of Africa, extremely well armed and passed back and forth between morally grey governments forever

The only way anywhere in the world has democracy is because of regular people fighting and dying for it. And in much of the world, it took many many, often bloody attempts before it stuck.
