Remind me again why cops are only expected to have a cursory knowledge of the law yet have the full authority of the state to enforce it while simultaneously being given qualified immunity from justice should they unknowingly break the law?

They have the state’s express permission to kill you should they ***feel*** threatened but we’re expected to pretend that’s okay??????

Mind you, at least in my state, there is longer lengths of training required of COSMETOLOGISTS than police officers. It is easier to become a cop, armed with a gun to use pretty much indiscriminately, than it is to become a hairstylist, armed with… scissors and hair dye. Ridiculous.

I know it’s unrealistic for every cop to be a lawyer but the US has some of the shortest training time for cops and it mostly focuses on tactics and force instead of law. Our law enforcement system is fundamentally broken in my eyes

I agree. Paralegal training in their jurisdiction at minimum. They need to know exactly what is permissible under state and federal law and only receive their badge after passing a written test by 90% or more. The “good guys with a gun” are not always good guys. Usually too out of shape for the military and too dumb to go to college or trade school to do anything else. In my hometown they put up signs on 377 to recruit. It should be far more selective than that.
