happy 25th birthday to Wikipedia ironically one of the last bastions of truth, neutrality, and editorial standards on the Internet

Wikipedia is biased generally to reflect what English speaking white guys think, since that’s who most of their English language editors are. It’s usually good for objective facts, but on any contentious issue? Beware.

I would be very skeptical of the bastion of truth and neutrality part. Everyone from governments to corporations have tried sanitizing their Wikipedia pages to make themselves seem better and have even succeeded in some cases

don’t misunderstand me. Wikipedia is far from perfect. But if you understand the talk pages, user contributions, and page history, it’s very easy to determine whether a page has been astroturfed, and to start discussion on fixing it This is why topics with a lot of scrutiny or controversy actually tend to be better sourced and more reliable

In comparison to corporately owned legacy media with opaque editorial standards, Wikipedia is a breath of fresh air
