I hate how people equate “we want gun control” to “we want to take away all your guns”. No dawg we want to make it illegal for people previously convicted of a firearm related charge to buy a gun. We want gun safes in houses with children living there

“But that stops good guys from getting guns!!!”I’ve had three notable mass shootings happen within fifty miles of me in the past five years, two at schools and one in a church. All of them were committed using legally purchased guns, could have been prevented with common sense gun laws, and could not have been prevented by a good guy with a gun. The harder you make something for someone, the less likely you are to do it.

Can we start with actually incarcerating repeat offenders then instead of DAs letting them go on low or no bail?

So why don't you try that in your blue cities? Maybe prove it works before pushing it on everyone else?

every single person is one degree or less away from someone who has experienced gun violence or even lost a loved one to it…

Now look at the most dangerous cities per capita in those states and who controls them

Now take away the red towns in those states and look at Oakland, Rockford, Camden etc and who controls them

What does that have to do with gun safety laws?

Because this graph seems to correlate strict gun laws with safety so I am asking you to realize that blue cities in blue states are often the most dangerous per capita and that your argument relies on safer red-purple areas to work.

… which is bigger entire states’ worth of violence trends, governed by a state congress & governors office with the ability to legislate, or a heavily populated metro area where more people = more interaction = more policing, governed by a local municipality and a mayoral office with the inability to legislate much besides zoning, state funding disbursement, etc

Cities absolutely have more control over local policy and policing. Red states especially give more rights to municipalities. State governments do not control local affairs.

State governments have the ability to pass state legislation that can address the high rate of violence across their entire state, even without big metro areas conflating the numbers like in feckin Wyoming. Municipalities can’t pass any kind of legislation that prevents people statewide from acquiring firearms and bringing them into the city, they just have to do the stupid “gun-free zones” which is a band-aid. “A ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” as Ben Franklin might’ve said.
