Y chromosome and mitochondrial haplogroup can be especially funky, because they are inherited directly from the father or the mother without modification and mutate very little. So while most DNA of those lake chad Africans will be of African origin, all it took was some distant European paternal ancestry and they’re still a primarily European haplogroup.
